Mission Statement

We are on a mission to ensure that public schools remain a public good rather than a privatized commodity. We will organize to cultivate public schools that are safe, accessible, resourced, fair, and joyful for all. We re-imagine the future of public schools and set out to win the changes we seek.

Public schools are the epicenter of our society and our collective future. A well-educated, well-nurtured population offers broad benefits to our society that transcend the walls of a school. Schools are the small-scall communities within which young people may grow the critical thinking, mindfulness, and interpersonal skills necessary to better serve their community and persevere with character in an increasingly uncertain world. A future in which every child has access to a safe, resourced, accessible, and joyful public school is a future in which the collective not only survives, but thrives.

The current reality is that public schools often lack the funding and resources to create the learning conditions and outcomes we expect and need of a public school. Public educators often face working conditions that range from unreasonable to inhumane – working long and exhausting hours with minimal resources and pay, and responsible for unsustainable class sizes and caseloads in which meeting every student’s needs is impossible; all while under constant scrutiny from the school, district, and society at large. As a result, educators experience stress-induced physical and mental health challenges, without the support, protections,  remedies, nor resources to manage them – leading to rapid burnout and high rates of attrition. These conditions are incompatible with a school system in which all kids have their basic needs met so they can flourish. In turn, this dynamic harms families, communities, and society at large.
